Adopting a pet is super easy! Start by browsing the animals available on our website or stop by the shelter to meet them in person. Once you've found a pet you'd like to adopt, you'll complete an adoption application and spend some time with one of our team members to make sure it's the right fit for both you and the animal.
If everything looks good, you'll pay the adoption fee, complete the paperwork, and head home with your new family member. Every adopted dog and cat is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and receives appropriate medical care before adoption.
Adopters must be at least 18 years old and have a valid photo ID. If you rent, we may ask for proof that pets are allowed where you live. If you already have a dog at home, we may recommend or require a meet-and-greet to help ensure everyone gets along.
Our goal isn't to make adoption difficult. It's to make successful, lifelong matches for both pets and people.
Adoption fees vary based on the animal's age and species. Fees are current as of May 2026.

Absolutely! Volunteers play an important role in helping us care for the animals and support our mission. Whether you enjoy walking dogs, socializing cats, helping at events, or assisting behind the scenes, we'd love to have you join our team.
To get started, simply complete a volunteer application and attend a short orientation.
Every donation helps improve the lives of the animals in our care.
Financial gifts have the greatest impact because they allow us to respond to our most urgent needs, especially medical care. We also gladly accept many pet supplies, including food, treats, toys, blankets, towels, and cleaning supplies. You can also shop directly from our Amazon Wish List to send items the shelter needs most.
Yes.
Our goal is to save every healthy and treatable animal that comes into our care. We provide medical treatment, behavioral support, enrichment, and plenty of love while each animal waits for a home.
In rare cases involving irremediable suffering or severe behavioral concerns that pose a serious safety risk, humane euthanasia may be the kindest option. Those decisions are never made lightly and are always based on what's best for the animal.
Yes, but only by appointment and as space allows. Please contact Davis at (828) 464-8878.
We understand that surrendering a pet is often a difficult decision. Before making that choice, we're happy to discuss your situation and see if there are resources that might help you keep your pet at home. If surrender is the best option, our team will walk you through the process and explain any applicable fees.
Most adoptions take about 45 minutes from start to finish. On busy Saturdays or during special adoption events, it may take a little longer, so we recommend allowing up to two hours. We appreciate your patience because finding the right match is worth taking the time.
